New Things To Come

Hi, everyone.  David C. Roberson here with a bit of an update on what you can look forward to from Maladjusted Productions.

It’s been said before that we have an enormous back-catalog of material awaiting edit, and I’m proud to say that after two years, I now have the capabilities to edit these things.  For those of you who are new to Maladjusted Productions, you are doubtless unfamiliar with the majority of the first season of The Curmudgeon’s Perspective or our first comedy sketch, The Drifter.  These things will come to be known to you in the weeks and months ahead.  I will be editing and posting as time permits me.  So what could be more important than restoring the entirety of the Maladjusted Productions’ canon?  Adding to it.

Jason Goss and I have been working on scripts. A couple are ready to be shot.  Props and costumes are being shipped in THIS WEEK for our next three video sketches. I’m staying mum on the details, but I will say that geek glands shall be stimulated.  And all while I am editing a brand, spanking-new Maladjusted Video Diary that should be up soon!  In fact, the first edit is done, and is waiting sound effects and music.  It’s a fun little piece that I hope you all enjoy.

A Video Editing Nightmare

I know there are people out there who wonder what happened to more than 50% of the videos I once had posted on my youtube account. Those videos, in my mind, were and will always be a part of Maladjusted Productions, a part of the canon of my maturation (however much of that has arguably happened) as an artist in a visual medium. For those who wonder, perhaps they will stumble across this blog post.

The simple fact of the matter is, I was stupid when I was just starting out, and I believed that it was okay to use copyrighted music in my videos. That’s the majority of the reason for so many being gone. A couple of my videos were stripped from Youtube BY youtube, and I took the others down that had any violations. The other reason is because I was more… free with my language in those days, and I no longer felt that it accurately represented me in any way.

That being said, there are loads of things in those videos, the master tapes of those videos, that I would love to have out there, and I would love to take a crack at editing those old things again. Re-posting them. I have hours upon hours of workable footage sitting on a shelf (quite literally), and as it is, I have nothing to edit with.

I have searched for free editing software with even the capabilities of the OLD Windows Movie Maker (the program I used to make the vast majority of my old videos), and freeware programs just don’t have the capabilities. Most of the time, they don’t even WORK once you’ve downloaded them. Oddly, the newest version of Windows Movie Maker for Windows 7 is less impressive than its ten year-old counterpart.

I am blessed enough to have friends with very nice editing software, but the drive to their respective residences is very gas-consuming. And they have lives and things to do on their own computers. I can’t go over to their places every time I need to edit something. Had I the capability, I would be editing every free second to get more content out to our subscribers and out to the community in general. And my computer simply isn’t able to handle even the $49-&100 dollar range of video editing software.

I’m getting discouraged. My head is telling me to quit, but my heart is telling me to keep trudging through the muck until I find dry land.

Trudging on,
David C. Roberson, Maladjusted Productions

Happy 2011! What’s Happening!?

Well, I’ll tell you what’s happening.

Software problems continue to haunt me, but here’s what’s going on.  If you’re reading this on the official blog, then that means at least someone is paying attention to what is quickly becoming THE hub of information for Maladjusted Productions.  I’m still tinkering with a few things, but this is already one of the easiest ways of getting updates on the latest videos.

Are New Videos Coming?

Yes. And not only NEW ones, but old ones as well.  I took a quick break in December to get some holiday/birthday-related stuff accomplished, but I’ll be wading back in to edit and post older videos that have 1) never seen the light of day or 2) been taken down for varied reasons.  Some of these are quick edits, some are extensive and time-consuming.  So here’s the general plan:

  • Re-editing The Curmudgeon’s Perspective.
  • Re-editing The Drifter
  • Editing Simply Terrible Dance Moves II: Dance By Dawn!
  • Editing together blooper reels for our current sketches
  • Begin shooting The Curmudgeon’s Perspective – Season Two
  • Begin production on “Trek Talk”, a new series on a separate channel
  • Begin production on a whole stack of scripts I have floating around

These are momentous and insanely time-consuming projects. I hope to get well into them very soon.  I am still shopping around for a good, affordable editing program for my PC, and I am planning on purchasing a decent external mic and lighting kit.  I have much to do, but I’m slowly getting through it.  Thanks for bearing with me, and happy new year!

Suicide

Hello, everyone!

So the rumors are true. We have rearranged the den to make room for it.: THE GREEN SCREEN (cue heavenly choir)! If you’re wondering where I’ve been, my computer committed suicide about a month ago, so writing has pretty much been me scribbling on one of those yellow legal pads… I’m trying to figure out what to do about a computer—I try to use Matt’s when he isn’t here… when he is, he plays WoW. There’s just nothing I can do but sit back, wait for him to hit rock bottom… he’ll only quit when he gets ready to.

Regardless, there are more videos coming. I promise. I’ve uploaded Simply Terrible Dance Moves 2 into Final Cut, and I’ve started making some decisions for re-editing our very first skit, “The Drifter”. Making sort of a directors cut of that, if you will since we, in our infinite ignorance believed we could get away with using copyrighted music throughout the entire video. Ah, to be young again!

This week, we’re filming a brand new video, but I won’t tell you what it is. I will say that it is a parody of a movie that is currently in theaters.
As for the Halloween Special, we came up with some great stuff, but it was just too expensive and time-consuming to make it for Halloween. Maybe next year?

Thank you guys for your continued support! Your comments and messages really mean a lot! When I was growing up, my mother was never one of those moms to say, “Stop encouraging him!” when I would act up. She was usually the first one laughing. So I think it’s safe to say that both she and I implore you, “Keep encouraging us!” and share us with your friends!

Goodbye 2006

2006 was really pretty annoying. It wasn’t at all what I’d hoped, but one good thing happened: I got a short film accomplished and I wrote the first draft of a novel. Not bad, eh? But when you compare it to all the other crap that went down, it’s like saying, “Oh, well it’s too bad that tornado struck that orphanage and killed all of those kids, but at least it didn’t hit the post office next door!”

Meh, I don’t even care to finish this. I’ll just hope for better this year.
